New system, new tool. You compare every output with what you would do yourself, look for errors and stay alert.
Month 1: spot checks
It keeps being right and you start trusting. You still check, but not everything; you scan instead of read.
Month 3: only when in doubt
You have other things to do and the output is almost always good, so you only check when something looks off.
Month 6: blind acceptance
It's always been fine, so why would you still check? You accept the output and move to the next task.
This isn’t weakness, it’s how people work. We’re optimized for efficiency: when something keeps going well, we stop checking. But with AI that’s dangerous, especially if you no longer know where AI typically fails.
AI hides errors behind confidence
With a human colleague, you notice mistakes. They’re sometimes tired, sometimes distracted, sometimes inconsistent, and you know you need to check. AI is different.
